What do healthy boundaries, mental health, grocery budgeting, and food storage have to do with each other?
Earlier today I tried to record myself talking about my thoughts on these topics, but the truth is, I am much better with my words when I can write them out and think through them. Also, I am very awkward on camera, it’s not my favorite thing 😅🤓💀.
I have shared recently that I have been struggling with depression. Depression is not a new challenge in my life, it is something I have dealt with to varying degrees since I was a teenager.
Recently my depression symptoms have hit me like a ton of bricks. For me, I experience exhaustion, lack of motivation, and feeling anxious. It's been a LONG time since I had felt depression symptoms like this.
I see a doctor and a therapist, and my husband and I have lots of open and honest conversations.
For me, I am not experiencing depression in ways people traditionally think of depression. I am not sad, I am not having a mental health crisis, and I am very aware of my emotions.
I have had years of helpful therapy to learn healthy coping tools and to be able to identify when I am experiencing stronger symptoms than normal.
Over the past little while I have had the opportunity (& challenge) of needing to set some difficult boundaries. I have felt stretched thin with all that is on my plate.
I have certain aspects of my life right now where I HAVE (and want) to show up in the best ways possible. Between my family, my 12-year-old's schooling this year, my church youth volunteer work, and my new website I feel like I am juggling many big important things. These are all areas where I want to show up as fully as possible.
I am a person who cares deeply about other people's feelings, which has made learning how to set and keep healthy boundaries challenging for me.
Recently I have had to take a big step back from many things out of self-preservation. I only have so much to give and I have had to accept that stepping back in the ways I have needed will upset some people.
