Food Storage Dinner Recipes, That Your Family Will Actually Eat!

Having emergency foods on hand in the event of a natural disaster, power outage, or other unexpected emergencies is a great idea. But most people need to know what kinds of food to buy. It takes work to come up with shelf-stable dinner ideas. Knowing what types of food to stock up on can be challenging.

No worries, I’ve got you covered. I have seven shelf-stable dinner ideas for you.

I want to help you achieve your food storage and emergency preparedness goals. Here on modernfoodstoragemama.com, we focus on the added peace we feel as we focus on getting a little more prepared over time.

Food storage can feel like such an overwhelming topic. Thinking about the what-if scenarios where you might need food storage is scary. Sometimes this topic can feel so unachievable that people don’t work on food storage or emergency preparedness at all. I want to give you helpful information and tools to help you continually build on your food storage.

Let’s create a food safety net for you and your family!

You’ve got this, friend! Remember, we are taking baby steps. Doing something is far better than doing nothing, and each tiny step you take towards being more prepared will empower you and help you to feel more peace of mind.

7 Food Storage Dinner Ideas:

I am sharing seven tasty and convenient food storage dinner options. These foods will not require refrigeration or freezing. Not only are these meals convenient, but they are life-saving meals during an emergency. I will also share with you what food storage brands I purchase from. These meals contain short-term food storage items, foods you can buy at a regular grocery store, and long-term food storage items from specific brands. Some foods in these recipes will have a shelf-life of approximately twelve months, and some are shelf-stable for up to 30 years.

Spaghetti-

Spaghetti is a practical and versatile food storage meal. There are a variety of ways you can prepare spaghetti. You could make your spaghetti using canned spaghetti sauce or canned tomatoes. For a long-term food storage option, I recommend buying tomato powder. The photo above shows the foods and ingredients I pulled from my long-term food storage stockpile.

I rely on two brands for my long-term food storage spaghetti recipe.

Thrive Life:
-Tomato powder
-Freeze-dried ground beef
-Mozzarella cheese
-Garlic seasoning
-Chef’s choice seasoning

Deseret Farms:
Spaghetti Bites
Dehydrated Onions

Macaroni & Cheese

Who doesn’t love comfort food? A big pot of Macaroni & Cheese is a crowd-pleaser. If you were in a situation where you had to rely only on your shelf-stable food storage, I bet you and your family would be happy if Mac & Cheese were an option! So what do you need to make this meal? Here is what I have in my food storage.

Thrive Life:
-Cheddar cheese (freeze-dried)
-Cheese mix
-Powdered milk

Deseret Farms:
Macaroni noodles
Powdered milk

Augason Farms:
Butter Powder

Ramen Noodle Soup

Here is my twist on Ramen Noodle Soup! We all know Ramen is pretty much the cheapest meal ever (and probably not the most nutritious, lol). But having a package of ramen on hand is emergency preparedness 101 in my book.

To bulk up your Ramen, consider adding freeze-dried veggies and chicken. Adding these foods to your Ramen will add more protein and give you more healthy nutrients.

Ramen

Thrive-Life:
-Chopped Chicken
-Carrot Dices
-Sweet Corn
-Green Peas

Deseret Farms:
-Dehydrated Onions

Augason Farms:
Bread/Scone/Roll Mix

Pork Burrito Bowls

Burrito Bowls make an excellent food storage recipe; we need to put all that rice and beans we store for food storage to work. I include freeze-dried pulled pork in this recipe, but you could use ground beef, shredded beef, chicken, etc.

Thrive Life:
-Pulled Pork
-Cheese Sauce
-Cheddar Cheese
-Red Bell Peppers
-Sweet Corn
-Green Chili Peppers
-Sour Cream Powder

Deseret Farms:
White Rice
Black Beans

*I highly recommend having a small Butane Stove (and fuel) on hand for cooking during a power outage.

Canned Chili & Corn Bread

Canned Chili is convenient to have on hand for busy nights when you need to throw something together quickly and for having on hand for emergencies. Most commercially canned Chili has a shelf-life of 3-5 years.

During a power outage, you can heat your Chili on a camping stove or on a backyard grill.

Did you know…
You can bake cornbread during a power outage using a Solar Oven or Dutch Oven? Pretty cool, right?!

Canned Chicken Soup & Bread

Canned Soup is also an excellent option for quick food storage. Like the Chili I mentioned above, this isn’t an actual recipe, but something I highly recommend having on hand.

Canned soups have a long shelf life; they are easy to use on nights when you don’t have time to cook dinner and for having stocked in the pantry for emergencies. You can also add some canned soup to your 72-Hour Kits.

You could also make some bread or rolls to go with your soup with the Augason Farms Bread Mix (10-year shelf-life).

Tuna Salad & Crackers

Canned Tuna (or chicken) mixed with some mayo and served on crackers is a super easy food storage meal. It might not be the most exciting meal, but you could eat it for a quick meal or a snack in an emergency.

These foods are easy to buy at the regular grocery store and in your pantry or cupboards.

Let’s Chat!

I would love to hear your shelf-stable food storage ideas! Please share your ideas with us in the comments section of this article. I know that not all of these dinners are technically “recipes” but I hope that these food storage dinner ideas will give you a starting place with your food storage and with spark some ideas of your own!

Why Thrive-Life:

I am happy to answer any questions about the various brands I have shown in the photos. In my stockpile, I buy food storage from a few different brands, but the majority of my food storage comes from Thrive Life. Their food has clean ingredients and I love that many are non-GMO. I was introduced to this company years ago through a friend, and it has been through their monthly delivery option and monthly specials (sales) that I have consistently added to my food storage each month for the past eight years. I have a personal goal and budget to spend $100 monthly on long-term food storage.

Please feel free to ask me any questions you have, and I want you to know that I will never pressure you to buy this particular brand. There are many ways to build up your food storage supply, and I am here to cheer you on and encourage you to keep at it!

You can check out Thrive products on my website www.brittsfoodstorage.thrivelife.com.

Also if you decide to sign up for the monthly deliveries (you can cancel or pause anytime without penalty) you will find the video below very helpful. The video walks you through how the monthly deliveries work, how to order, etc.
